Legislature Expands Florida Civil Rights Act.

At the end of the last legislative session Governor Bush signed into law amendments to the Florida Civil Rights Act. The amendments permit the Attorney General to sue or investigate businesses even if their employees never file a complaint if a pattern or practice of discrimination exists or if discrimination raises an issue of great public interest. Under prior law the Attorney General could file suit under the Florida Civil Rights Act only if a person=s constitutional or statutory rights were interfered with because of threats, intimidation, or coercion.
